Dear Sisters and Brothers,
You are warmly invited to join hundreds of people from diverse national, cultural, and political backgrounds for the May Day March for Dignity and Justice in Houston on Sunday, May 1. We will meet at Renwick and Bellaire at 12 pm, began marching at 1 pm, and rally at Burnett-Bayland Park, 6000 Chimney Rock, at 2 pm. Workers and their allies all over the world will be commemorating past victories and confronting present challenges. Houston's celebration of International Workers Day and demonstration of the power of the working class will be part of this global experience!
Workers, people of color, immigrants, women, LGBT communities, religious minorities, and democratic-minded people are under attack in the United States today. In addition to the oppression that is part of everyday life here, we face the growing danger of fascism. But on May Day in Houston, all of us will come together and make clear that "The people, united, will never be defeated!"
Together, we have the power! Together, we will shout out: Unite against Racism and Fascism! Unite and Fight for Equality and Justice! Black and Latino Lives Matter! Stop the Raids and Deportations! Defend Women’s Reproductive Rights! End Islamophobia and Religious Bigotry! Full Equality for LGBT Communities! End the Exploitation of Workers! Fight for a $15/Hour Living Wage! Quality Housing, Health Care, and Education for All! End U.S. Wars and Military Interventions! Stop Global Warming and Climate Change!
This event is being organized by the May Day Coalition, which includes Centro de Recursos Centroamericanos (CRECEN), Familias Inmigrantes y Estudiantes en la Lucha (FIEL), Fe y Justicia Workers Center (FJWC), Houston Peace and Justice Center (HPJC), Houston Socialist Movement (HSM), Latinos Inmigrantes Triunfadores (LITE), Mi Familia Vota (MFV), People Before Profits, SEIU-Fight for $15, Texas Organizing Project (TOP), Workers World Party (WWP), (list in formation).
Planning meetings are being held every Wednesday evening. If you would like to participate or want more information, call (832) 692-2306, (713) 530-8999 (se habla espanol), (281) 935-9248, or (713) 478-6657 (se habla espanol).
In Solidarity,
Houston Socialist Movement
